Ambivalent Memories

Ambivalence, 2013
Xarolla (Windmill), Zurrieq
Collective Exhibition with Artist Group X242

The subject matter explored is based on recurring memories surfacing from my upbringing and is expressed into something tangible, intimate and very personal. It explores the subject of sleep, or rather the lack of it; and a battle with anxiety. The outcome exhibited addresses my perception of my own memories and allows me to identify with them. It may sometimes even provide a sense of clarity but does not always provide closure.

Monotype printmaking, works hand in hand with the theme of memory and is depicted by means of the senses. The prints are made up of strands of hair printed on worn out pillowcases still smelling of my grandmother’s fabric conditioner. The printmaking technique allows the artist to recreate the memory into more than one print, refining or exhausting the memory in mind.
